Precision Toolmaking: Mould & Press Tooling

Precision Toolmaking: Mould & Press Toolings

by The Toolroom Ltd (TTR).

Expert design, manufacture, and life-cycle support for high-performance industrial tooling.

At The Toolroom Ltd (TTR), toolmaking is our heritage. We provide a comprehensive, end-to-end service for Injection Mould Tools and Pressing Tools, supporting manufacturers from the initial “bespoke one-off” build through to essential long-term maintenance.

Based in our fully equipped Hartlepool facility, we combine traditional toolmaking craftsmanship with advanced CNC technology to ensure your production lines stay operational and efficient.

Specialist Tooling Capabilities

We understand that tooling is a significant investment. Our mission is to maximise the lifespan and performance of your assets through expert engineering.

1. Plastic Injection Mould Tools

From complex multi-cavity tools to simple prototype moulds, we design and manufacture tooling capable of producing high-precision plastic components. Our expertise includes:

  • Full tool design and 3D modelling.
  • Manufacture of cores, cavities, sliders, and lifters.
  • High-grade tool steel selection for maximum longevity.

2. Pressing & Form Tooling

We provide robust solutions for metal stamping and forming. Our press tools are engineered to withstand high-volume production while maintaining critical tolerances:

  • Progression tools and stage tools.
  • Blanking and piercing dies.
  • Forming and bending tools.

Critical Toolroom Services

A tool is only as good as its last service. We provide a rapid-response department dedicated to keeping your production moving.

Tool Modification

Engineering changes are a reality of manufacturing. We provide precise tool modifications—whether adding new features, changing gates, or altering geometry—ensuring the tool performs to its new specifications without compromising its integrity.

Repair & Refurbishment

Wear and tear or unexpected breakdowns can halt production. We offer a “priority repair” service for damaged mould faces, broken pins, or worn components. Our refurbishment service can return tired, high-cycle tools to “as-new” condition, significantly extending their working life.

Bespoke One-Offs & Jigs

Not every project requires a mass-production tool. We specialise in bespoke one-off components, jigs, and fixtures designed to solve specific manufacturing challenges or assist in assembly processes.

Why Choose The Toolroom Ltd?

Total Self-Sufficiency:

With in-house CNC Milling, Turning, and EDM, we control the entire toolmaking process. We don’t rely on third-party subcontractors, meaning we control the quality and the deadline.

1.5 Tonne Capacity

Our facility is equipped to handle, move, and machine tools weighing up to 1.5 tonnes.

The “TTR” Promise

We operate on the principle of transparency. We do what we say we will do—providing realistic lead times and honest technical advice.

ISO 9001 Certified

Our quality management systems ensure every repair or new build is documented, inspected, and delivered to the highest UK standards.

Toolmaking (Mould & Press Tools) FAQs

The Toolroom Ltd (TTR)

Can you repair or modify tools manufactured by other companies?

Yes. A significant portion of our work involves the repair, modification, and refurbishment of existing mould and press tools, regardless of the original manufacturer. Whether you have a tool from overseas or a legacy tool with no drawings, we can assess and restore it to full production standards.

What is your maximum lifting and machining capacity?

Our Hartlepool facility is equipped to handle, move, and machine tools weighing up to 1.5 tonnes. This allows us to support a wide range of medium-to-heavy industrial applications across the automotive, medical, and consumer goods sectors.

How quickly can you respond to an emergency tool breakdown?

We understand that downtime is a major cost. We offer a rapid-response service for urgent tool repairs. By housing CNC milling, turning, and EDM services under one roof, we can often bypass the delays associated with subcontracting, getting your production line back up and running in the shortest possible timeframe.

Do you provide "Design for Manufacture" (DfM) advice for bespoke one-offs?

bsolutely. We don’t just follow drawings; we act as your engineering partner. For bespoke tools and one-off jigs, we review your designs to ensure they are optimised for performance and cost-effective manufacture, identifying potential issues before the build begins.

What is the difference between tool refurbishment and a standard repair?

A repair typically addresses a specific failure (such as a broken pin or a crashed mould face). Refurbishment is a proactive “deep clean” and overhaul of the tool, where we inspect all moving parts, refresh cooling channels, and restore surface finishes to “as-new” condition—significantly extending the tool’s working life.

Can you work from a physical part if the original tool drawings are lost?

Yes. Using our reverse engineering capabilities, we can take an existing component or a worn tool and create new CAD data. This allows us to manufacture replacement parts or modify the tool even when the original documentation is no longer available.

Are you ISO 9001 certified?

Yes. The Toolroom Ltd is ISO 9001 certified. This ensures that every tool we build, repair, or modify undergoes rigorous quality checks and follows a fully traceable manufacturing process, providing you with total peace of mind.
